NATTERCHAT Version 1.1 Installation Notes

UPDATED 05-07-2004

1. Extract the ZIP file leaving directory structure intact. Extract it to the place on the server where you wish natterchat to run from. You will obtain several files, including the database and 2 folders.
   ADMIN - contains the admin files
   IMAGES - contains the logo and the emoticons.
   
2. You will now need to make sure the permissions for the natterchat folder allow reading for the IIS client. You will also need to add read/write/modify permissions to the natterchat database. If you move the database you will need to change line 17 in config.asp by adding a ' to the start of the line, deleting the ' from the start of line 15 and entering in the files location. For databases on brinkster, change line 17 in config.asp to be /username/db/natterchat11.mbd.
   
3. You have now completely set natterchat up on your server. To test it open up the home.asp page and if your connection is working you should get the login page appear with one room listed in the room list. If this is not the case then there is a problem. Try looking on our forums at www.natterchat.co.uk to see if they can help you.

Admin Features

This is not password protected, so you will probably want to change the file locations.
These features allow you to:

• View the users that are registered
• View the active users at that moment
• Delete the messages from the database (this speeds up, and reduces the size of the database)
• Delete the private messages
• Delete rooms (except the main one)
• Modify rooms, i.e their names
• Change the idle time and kickout times (as above)
• Idle time is the amount of time that is allowed to go past where the user is inactive until the user list displays the user as idle.
• Kickout time is the amount of time that is allowed to go past where the user is inactive until the system will log them out.
